A Happiness Gauge

A Happiness Gauge

If someone asked you the right question every time; a question that you could simply respond "yes" or "no" to, would that make your life much easier? Is the question "what would you like for supper?" a good question for you, or is "would you like pasta for supper tonight?" easier to respond to?The mind loves to be in control and we can spend half of our life thinking we want to do something that is totally wrong for us.We can give ourselves goals, think we want this or that job, or want to be as successful as a well-known icon of society. Some people even live a completely different life from the one they are meant to be living because of inappropriate mental conditioning.Try taking the mind out of the equation (which takes some practice!) and let the body respond from the gut, literally, a response that comes out before the mind has had time to ponder. When we do this most of us will find it is the correct response.Think about it.We are spiritual beings inhabiting a body. But we are taught to ignore the body we have for this lifetime.Perhaps it is time to start loving our body and listening to the response mechanisms of our body.Only then will we truly begin to live the lives we were meant to have.We are programmed from the day we are born to be like everyone else, and the programming continues through school.Whatever we learn at school in the end most people have to go to work in a job that they may not love (could anyone love working in a mega-store stacking shelves?) when we each have our own gut response to what we really love and what is our true role in this lifetime. Here are ten questions that will help you to free yourself from the confines of your mind..1.If happiness was the national currency, are you doing the kind of work that would make you rich?2.Have you ever seen insanity where later you saw creativity?3.Would you break the law to save a loved one or rectify a wrong?4.Do you remember that time five years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?5.Are you stuck in a direction that you think is right and have missed the signpost that tells you to go a different way?6.Is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what your body tells you is right?7.If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?8.Would you act differently if you absolutely knew that nothing you did was being judged?9.Are you doing what you love or are you doing what you think other people will like you for?10.Do you know who you are?Bonus Question. Do you rely on your mind for decisions or do you have the survival instincts that allow you to realise something is wrong? For example - when a date won't take 'no' for an answer, a new babysitter puts you on edge, you feel you're being followed, the other person in the lift with you or the stranger offering to help you into your house with heavy shopping just doesn't feel right. The Gift of Fear originally written in 1997 by Gavin de Becker helps us recognise the survival signals that will protect us from violence. Can you notice these body signals or does your mind tell you to disregard them?Phylipa Dinnen.
