Whose Life Is It Anyway?

Whose Life Is It Anyway?

We live in a world where busy has become a national buzz word.A word we so frequently use to describe our state of being.A life we somehow created - full of activity, demands and craziness.Busy is a word we've become comfortable with.A word used to express how overwhelmed we feel and a covert cry for help.We often hear ourselves repeating, I'm so busy to, or I am too busy for, or I wish I wasn't so busy.On and on we openly shout in an attempt to describe the life we had, are having or will have. But whose life is it anyway?Dr.Hallowell reminds us that we are excessively busy because we allow ourselves to respond to everything.(March 2007 NYTimes.Com).So what's the answer? The answer lies within each of us and can be found by asking the honest question, WHY?If we believe time stops for no one, that this moment is the only moment we are promised, that clarity starts with knowing what's really important, then I invite you to explore and ponder the following five fundamental questions. To store the unanswerable in your toolbox called 'My Life,' and know, when the time is right, the answer will be revealed.1.Who's Setting Our Boundaries?Setting a boundary line or lines allows us to make clear distinctions between what are our choices and the choices of others. They allow us to determine what behavior(s) in ourselves or in others we choose to accept and/or tolerate as norms. If we believe Dr.Phil's reminder that we are responsible for teaching people how to treat us, then we should be asking what boundaries have I established and who have I allowed or am allowing to cross them and why?2.Whose Choice Is It Anyway? We all have the power to enslave or enable ourselves through the choice of thoughts, words and actions. How we use this power is our choice. As we examine our surroundings ask, "What do I see, my choices or the choices of others?".When we speak and listen, are we saying what others want to hear or sharing honestly? We will always be at choice even if we choose not to choose it will be our choice. If we remember we are today by the choices we made yesterday would we choose differently and why?3.Who's In Control?Creating an extraordinary life requires us to manage our energy not time.It requires us to stop often, breathe and assess what is true reality or our perceptions.Living in control requires us to ask - God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Then it requires us to take responsibility for the control and act.4.Are We Accepting? If we accepted the greatest commandment of all - to love your neighbor as you love yourself who would we focus on?If we do not want others to change us, then why do we expect others to change for us?Live and let live is one of the keys to peace in our lives. When we practice tolerance in our lives we are liberated to work on our own issues. When we use this slogan we end many of the conflicts in our lives and gain the ability to stop new ones before they build into big ones.(Dual Recovery Anonymous). If we have not accepted who we are or that of another ask why?5.Do We Honor Our Gift?In the movie Happy Feet, Mumble is given an unusual gift - a gift to dance, and teaches others that uniqueness is not burden but a gift to be treasured.(Colin B movie-mania).We are often reminded how different people are, how each owns their special uniqueness. When we understand this uniqueness, we dispel the fear to share our gifts. If we are not insisting on using our God given gift to be whom we were meant to be, then ask why?Debbie Ford reminds us that most of us are still being driven by the eight-year old within.Transformation is having compassion for that child and shifting our perception to who we are and want to be.If not, we will always be looking at everyone and everything to determine our lives.(Know Thyself). To get clarity on what really matters, what's really important, slow down, breathe deeply and ponder - can I be in this moment, in this space and time, to know, understand and recognize what truly is important for my well being. If we do not believe every day we are given the gift of starting over, the opportunity to change how we see, feel and experience each moment, the chance to dance to a new song, to write a new chapter in the book called, 'Whose Life Is It Anyway,' then ask why?
